Sunbeams Philosophy
- Sunbeams OOSH provides high quality education and care using the best practice guidelines. Our goal is to facilitate each child’s social, intellectual and physical development.
- We aim to respect children’s unique learning styles and include their voices in our curriculum. We believe respect for each other to be essential.
- We view children as capable, creative, and confident learners and recognise the significance of the here and now, we want to provide a sense of being for each individual Sunbeams child.
- Sunbeams acknowledges the traditional custodians of the land in which we learn and grow, the Darkinjung People. Sunbeams values the importance of indigenous cultures and different cultural backgrounds and embed this into our day-to-day learning.
- Sunbeams values our families and communities, and we aim to promote and encourage respectful relationships with people in our community. We believe that families play the most important part in the life of their child. Through daily communication and shared decision-making, we welcome families to assist us to provide the best outcomes for each child on their learning journey. We respect each family’s right for privacy and always adhere to our confidentiality policy.
- Our educator’s role is to always demonstrate respect for each child and for the families at our service. Professional development is supported as educators gain new ideas, training and approaches to their pedagogy. We work as a team to share ideas and resources and build a collaborative relationship based on trust and honesty.
- Sunbeams OOSH offers children a comfortable, safe, stimulating and home-like environment. Our free-play framework encourages ongoing input from children into our educational program with a range of choices, experiences and activities for them to choose from. The principle of free play whereby children make their own choices about whether they participate in structured activities or supervised play.
- We incorporate the My Time, Our Place Learning framework to extend and enrich the wellbeing and development of school age children in a range of play and leisure activities, including opportunities to stimulate and challenge their young minds. We believe in the importance of outdoor play and children engaging in the arts and STEM based learning.
- Sunbeams values sustainable environments. We encourage children to engage in the natural environment and aim to teach and embed environmental sustainability in our everyday practices.
